ASMI Women’s Workshop

By: Alicia Ng

I had the most amazing opportunity to run the Enneagram Personality workshop for 60 women of the Association of Singapore Marine & Offshore Energy Industries (ASMI) Women’s Wing on 17th May 2024.

Apart from their wonderful sense of community in a largely male-dominated industry, they were a tight-knit group who were extremely engaged learners, and curious about how the Enneagram can help them understand themselves and others better, and to reach their fullest potential.

Being such a large group, it was the perfect opportunity for Type Panels as each type was represented by at least 6 participants, with some types having 2 tables. It was great fun for everyone (including myself) to see how different each panel was and it allowed for deep and surprising insights into what makes each type tick, the “unforgivables” and most importantly, how to understand, appreciate and have empathy for every type.

As a woman myself, we were all on the same page about the multiple roles and expectations placed on us by society, people and ourselves. What impressed me most was how strongly supportive everyone was towards other women; they did not see one another as competitors but fellow “warriors” who were doing their best at work and in their personal lives. I was asked countless questions before, during and after the event – a table of Type Ones even ignored the goodies (wine, cheese, chocolates!) afterwards to stay back and continue their highly engaged discussion on the Enneagram!

All in all, it was a most memorable workshop and my privilege to conduct. Since the event, I have kept in touch with many of these women, and some will also be joining our public workshops this month. Granville and I will be conducting another workshop for ASMI in Hamburg, Germany, for the global chapter, in September, so stay tuned for that!
